Social media bubble?

I just came across this article in Adoi Magazine which speaks about social media challenging traditional media. Yesterday, I was amused to note that one of my friends who has over two decades of work in the media industry had this as his status quote on Facebook: ‘is happy to announce the death of prime-time. TV will last one more year. Podcasts will rule after that.’

By all accounts, more and more people are shifting their work – and interests – online. How many brands and businesses are aware of this, and are actively looking to move in that direction, whether it is creating a bigger online presence or re-thinking their business strategies to woo more consumers and users? From my constant online trolling of late, I’d say a lot of them.

At the same time however, I was talking to another friend yesterday who skeptically commented that social media as an industry had to be heading for a crash just like the dot-com bubble of the 90’s.

What do you think?

  1. not a destructive bubble… if you look at the big flow … just shiva doing his job, while brahma and vishnu are doing theirs …. it is one big system, forget the parts
