Art critic Waldemar Januszczak talks to the BBC about Monet and why he was considered a revolutionary.
“Talking about monet’s brushwork – that was revolutionary work for the time. He reinvented the brushstroke. Every mark he makes is a different wild, free mark. He doesn’t get it right all the time (….) the wild strokes changed art eventually.”
“Why did he upset the Academy so much?”
“Because they didn’t want art to be changed. They had a method and a style. They liked things to be a certain way. they liked order, and along came a young man who wanted to disrupt that order.”
