‘I don’t like the look of it’… (via @newyorker @dsearls)

This New Yorker cartoon was shared by the venerable Doc Searls with reference to the ongoing privacy issues faced by us, as internet users, in a tracking and advertising-heavy world, which is the basis for Project VRM. My ideal e-commerce community would be one where people declare their interest in buying products and brands THEN act upon it – utopian I know, but maybe it will become a reality yet.

I’ve written recently about what I think display can do in terms of monetisation and awareness, and am very aware it needs to be fixed, unlike in the cartoon. But as in the cartoon, I struggle with it.
