Brilliant way of bringing long-lost literary works to life. Seventy years to the day, the diaries of George Orwell are now being made available for anyone to read – in blog form. Yes, you heard that right. The Orwell Prize, a British award for political writing which has access to Orwell’s journals, is publishing them in real-time, original spelling errors intact, as The Orwell Diaries. It is set to be published till 2010, or, to be more accurate, George Orwell’s diaries have enough journal material to keep the blog going till 2010. From this article in the New York Times:
“I think he would have been a blogger,” said Jean Seaton, a professor at the University of Westminster in London who administers the Orwell writing prize and thought up the idea of the blog.
Well done, Professor Seaton. I think it’s a great way to engage with fans of Orwell’s works.
Thanks for posting this! I’m certainly a big Orwell fan, alongside many others who would definitely find this interesting.
